John French was born about 1720. He was the son of Samuel French.

He married Elizabeth Nichols.

John French (1746, married Mary Summers and Catherine Beardsley),
Nathan French (1748, married Lucy Johnson),
ElijahFrench (1750, married Abigail Beardsley),
Henry French (1759),
Patty French (1756-1756), and
Joseph French (1759, married Sarah Chatfield).

Elizabeth died in 1767 in Huntington, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

The north line of the Town of Stratford was twelve miles from Long Island Sound, and several of the French families had moved to North Stratford hills, adjoining the Town of Newtown, before moving to Vermont, previous to the Revolutionary War. John French seems to have remained in the vicinity of North Stratford.
